Former Berkeley Lab Delegate Experiences

Being a CUCSA delegate provides unique career experiences and opportunities:

Rachel Carl: "I worked on two CUCSA projects: Staff Veterans and Staff Diversity and both projects caught the eye of the then UC President, Janet Napolitano. A task team was developed based on our research to look at improving Veteran outreach at UC and I was invited to a meeting with President Napolitano to discuss options for increasing diversity in staff hires and promotions.  I realized, UC leadership really reads our work and wants to take action!"

Victor Chan: "I enjoyed representing LBNL to communicate staff perspectives with the Lab, Campus and UC leadership so that the staff voices are heard across the lab and all campuses."

Ellen Ford: "It was fun visiting the other campuses for meetings and seeing the diversity across the system. The experience helped me to really understand the positive impact that the UC has on the state.  Being able to represent LBNL in this forum that informs UC leadership and the Regents of staff perspectives felt like an honor."

Bill Johansen: "I remember being at a CUCSA meeting at UC Riverside and talking with another delegate about some changes that a Federal agency was making around required forms.  He and I were both excited to find someone who was dealing with the same issue -- and he said that he thought it was ironic that someone from the Lab had more in common on this issue than some of his colleagues on his own campus department.  It just goes to show that we have more in common with the Campuses than one may think and we can benefit from those connections."

Jeff Troutman: "[CUCSA] has been instrumental in reaching out to UC colleagues in researching best practices on other campuses and figuring out how to apply them here."
