2026/2027 Delegate Nominations Now Open
Deadline: Thursday, June 25th, 2026
Please review the role requirements and eligibility criteria below
Each year, Berkeley Lab seeks a new delegate to represent Berkeley Lab and serve a two-year term on CUCSA.
Delegate assignments start in August and quarterly meetings are held the first Wednesdays through Fridays in September, December, March and June. Attendance at all quarterly meetings and associated functions is strictly mandatory.
⚠️ Please Note: CUCSA is an active working council, not a passive advisory board. Serving as a delegate is a significant service role involving a substantial amount of independent project work and regular travel to various UC locations. Given the reality of demanding daily workloads, delegates must be able to effectively balance these council duties alongside their core job responsibilities. Securing the full, explicit support of your supervisor is critical before applying to ensure you can maintain your regular operational performance while meeting CUCSA commitments.
We are seeking fully committed candidates who can pledge to this workload and travel schedule for the entirety of the two-year term.
Delegate Eligibility:
Must be a full-time, non-represented, Career employee
Must have at least 5 years of Lab/UC service
Must be in good performance and conduct standing
Have full support from supervisor to participate in all CUCSA activities, with a mutual understanding of how core job responsibilities and performance standards will be maintained alongside council duties
CUCSA delegates are expected to demonstrate the following attributes:
Possess a broad knowledge and understanding of the University of California system
Understand concerns and issues faced by employees
Ability to consider and speak to issues from various perspectives
Commitment to attend and participate in quarterly CUCSA meetings and committees
The duties of all delegates shall include:
Attend all official functions and required systemwide travel scheduled as part of the eight quarterly in-person, multi-day CUCSA meetings (four per fiscal year) held at various UC locations
Regularly attend all mandatory virtual sessions, including multi-hour intersession meetings, UC-wide townhalls, and topical or committee meetings via Zoom
Serve as liaison between CUCSA and Berkeley Lab employees
Prepare quarterly reports from the locations to CUCSA and reports on CUCSA meetings and activities to the locations
Actively participate in CUCSA meetings by engaging with speakers and topical discussions
Actively participate on a project workgroup (time commitment will vary by topic and initiative). On average, this can be a 2 hours per week commitment.
Report out on work group efforts at each quarterly CUCSA meeting and produce a white paper by the June meeting.
Delegate Selection:
Nomination submissions are reviewed by a committee of former LBNL CUCSA delegates, the Chief HR Officer, and the Chief Stewardship Officer who will select the delegate.
